A sitting Member of the County Assembly has been arrested in dramatic fashion after CCTV footage allegedly linked him to a string of mobile phone thefts in the heart of Nairobi’s Central Business District.
Detectives from Kamukunji Police Station swooped on Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County, along Mfangano Street on Friday. Officers acted on intelligence that placed the lawmaker at the centre of three separate phone theft incidents reported in August and September 2026.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, surveillance footage proved decisive. “CCTV footage proved instrumental in the investigations, with detectives positively identifying him in connection with the reported incidents,” the DCI said.
The arrest has also revived an outstanding warrant of arrest. Musyoka is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 at the Makadara Law Courts, where he had earlier been charged with stealing. He was released on bond but allegedly failed to attend subsequent court hearings.
The MCA is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of his expected arraignment.
In a firm message accompanying the announcement, the DCI reiterated that no one is above the law. Detectives vowed to continue pursuing leads and bringing suspects before the courts “regardless of their position or status in society.”
The high-profile arrest has sent shockwaves through political and security circles, once again highlighting the growing role of CCTV technology in cracking cases that once went unsolved on Nairobi’s busy streets.
