M-KOPA’s revenue rose 45% to about Sh78 billion in FY2025 as the company marked 15 years and a cumulative 10 million customers.
Record FY2025 revenue and customer growth
The pan-African fintech reported record revenue of roughly $600 million (about Sh77.5 billion) for the year ended 31 December 2025, up 45% on the prior year. The figure is the highest in the company’s history and comes as it celebrates 15 years since it was founded in 2011.

Of the 10 million customers served since inception, three million joined in the past 12 months. Growth was spread across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.
M-KOPA now onboards about 10,000 customers a day and processes micropayments at a rate of about 23 a second.
“2025 was a record year for M-KOPA, with customer and revenue growth reaching new highs,” said chief financial officer Faraimose Kutadzaushe. “We maintained profitability while reinvesting as much as possible in our products, technology and distribution to scale our reach across Africa’s massive, underserved market of everyday earners.
We are still very early in our growth trajectory.”
Return to profit and Kenya’s market share
Accounts reported by market trackers show the group returned to profit in the year, with a net profit of about Sh615 million after a loss of roughly Sh2.7 billion in 2024. Revenue from the sale of goods and interest income each rose about 45%, to around Sh47 billion and Sh30.5 billion respectively.
Kenya remains the largest market, accounting for about 69% of the consumer financing portfolio, followed by Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana and South Africa.
From solar systems to smartphones and electric mobility
The company began as a provider of pay-as-you-go solar home systems for households without reliable grid power. It moved into smartphone financing in 2020 and has since recorded a five-year compound annual growth rate of about 50%.
Most customers now use more than one product over a multi-year relationship, spanning smartphones, digital loans and electric mobility. More than 10,000 electric motorcycles and three-wheelers financed by M-KOPA are operating in Kenya.
Employment and sales network expansion
Scale has also shown up in employment. M-KOPA added about 200 full-time roles in the year, a 9% increase, taking headcount above 2,500.
More than 5,000 new sales agents joined the distribution network, bringing the number of people earning income through that channel to nearly 50,000.
Fifteen years of consumer financing
The first million customers were reached only in 2020. The next nine million have come in the six years since, as the business shifted from a solar-finance start-up to a broader consumer-financing platform aimed at informal and everyday earners who struggle to pay for devices and services upfront.
