Suspect Apprehended After Regional Manhunt
A 23-year-old man suspected of the brutal killing of an 18-year-old Form Four student in Molo has been arrested after a manhunt that stretched into Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.

Walter Kipkoech was traced to a hideout in Lagwenda village on Tuesday, where detectives from Molo, working with officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) at the Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters, Rift Valley, smoked him out. He had fled immediately after the death of Joy Wangui, a student at Molo Secondary School, whose body was discovered inside a house in the Kiambaa area of Moto Location.

Chilling Details of the Crime Scene
Wangui’s brother had briefly left the home for a nearby shop. When he returned, he found his sister lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, her head severed from her body.
Responding detectives recovered several weapons near the body, all bearing bloodstains:
- An axe
- A panga
- Two knives
Her head was later found in the corridor. On the wall, a disturbing message had allegedly been scrawled in blood:
“I love you Joy but never cheat, am sorry.”
Investigation and Arrest Evidence
Preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) established that Kipkoech was Wangui’s boyfriend. Detectives are treating a possible relationship dispute as the motive.
At the time of his arrest, Kipkoech was found with key physical evidence:
- A blood-stained boxer
- A white T-shirt with the deceased’s name written at the hem
- Black jeans with visible dry blood stains
He was taken to Molo Police Station, where he is being processed ahead of arraignment as investigators continue to reconstruct the events leading to the killing.
Official DCI Response & Community Shock
The DCI has conveyed its deepest condolences to Wangui’s family, relatives and friends, describing her death as a tragic cutting short of a young life. The agency said it remains committed to establishing the full circumstances and ensuring that anyone found responsible faces the full force of the law.
The arrest comes a day after police launched the search following the discovery of the body. Residents of Kiambaa were left shocked by the violence of the attack inside a family home. Investigations remain ongoing.
