Sky Victor Refuses to Live with Biological Father Pastor Kanyari After Court Grants Him Custody

Sky Victor, the teenage daughter of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo and Pastor Victor Kanyari, has publicly declared that she does not want to live with her biological father following a court ruling that granted him custody of her and her younger brother, Danny. Hivileo

In an emotional livestream and public statements, Sky rejected the decision, saying Kanyari’s status as her biological father “means nothing” to her in terms of living arrangements. “Just because he’s my biological father, it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a title,” she said. She added that she would rather join her late mother than move in with him and has appealed for intervention, including from President William Ruto and the public. Pulse

The dispute follows the death of Betty Bayo in November 2025. After separating from Kanyari years earlier, Bayo had been living with businessman Hiram Gitau (popularly known as Tash), whom the children regard as a father figure. The siblings had been staying with Tash since their mother’s passing. Kanyari pursued legal action and was recently awarded custody by the Children’s Court. Thekenyatimes

Sky has said she prefers to remain in the home where her mother left her, describing it as familiar and stable. She has acknowledged respecting Kanyari but stated she is uncomfortable with the ruling and does not know him well enough personally after limited contact. She has also raised concerns about her brother’s well-being and claimed a previous stay with Kanyari was difficult. Danny has similarly been reported as preferring to stay with Tash. Channel15news

The case has drawn significant public attention in Kenya, highlighting tensions over biological parentage versus the children’s lived experience and wishes after the loss of their mother. Sky has called the day of the ruling her “second-worst day” after her mother’s death and insisted she will not willingly leave her current home. Ynews

No immediate response from Pastor Kanyari to Sky’s latest statements was detailed in the reports. The situation remains subject to further legal processes, with the children’s preferences now a central point of public discussion.
