Kwale County, October 31, 2026 – The Linda Mwananchi Movement has taken its grassroots mobilisation campaign to Kwale County today, with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna leading a series of public engagements across the coastal county.
The tour, which began earlier in the day, covers several stops including Samburu Town, Kinango Town, Kombani Junction and Lunga Lunga Town, before culminating in a main rally at Ukunda Showground scheduled for 3 pm. The events mark the movement’s first major public outing following the formal launch of its political party structures in Nairobi on Friday, October 30.
Linda Mwananchi, whose name translates to “Protect the Citizen,” has positioned itself as a voice for ordinary Kenyans facing economic pressures. The Kwale tour comes a day after the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reported that annual inflation rose to 7.3 per cent in October from 6.8 per cent in September, driven largely by higher food, transport and fuel prices. Transport costs recorded the sharpest annual increase at 17.1 per cent, while food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 10.2 per cent.
The movement has previously held rallies in Mombasa and Taita Taveta counties as part of efforts to establish a presence in all 47 counties ahead of the 2027 General Election. Local support has grown in recent months, with a section of ODM supporters in Kwale publicly defecting to Linda Mwananchi earlier in the year, citing dissatisfaction with the direction of their former party.
Sifuna and other leaders have used the tour to engage residents, political aspirants and local organisers. The events form part of a broader push to build county-level structures, with the movement saying it plans to open offices across the country in the coming weeks.
Supporters on the ground have described large turnouts at the stopovers, while the main rally at Ukunda Showground is expected to draw crowds from across the county. The tour is scheduled to conclude later today as the movement continues its nationwide outreach.
