Kalonzo Rejects Calls to Join Ruto Ahead of 2027

Machakos, November 1, 2026 — Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected calls by a section of leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration to join hands with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.Citizen

Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Machakos, Kalonzo firmly declined the overtures, citing what he described as the current administration’s record of injustice and the suffering of many Kenyans.

“No, thank you. I cannot join hands with you when you have done so much injustice to millions of Kenyans. Many Kenyans are suffering under this administration, what am I joining you to do? Thank you, but no!” he said.

He added: “Let’s meet at the ballot. That is the aim. I cannot join hands with you. First do right with Kenyans who are suffering under this administration.”

The rejection comes after Kalonzo faced hostility from some supporters during the launch of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters on Friday. The incident prompted Kenya Kwanza leaders, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, to urge him to abandon the opposition and work with Ruto, arguing that he was being disrespected despite his long political experience.

Kalonzo, however, reaffirmed that he remains in the presidential race and will not cross over to the government side. He is among several opposition figures, including Sifuna, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i and Ndindi Nyoro, positioning themselves for the 2027 contest as the opposition seeks to agree on a joint flagbearer.

Kalonzo has consistently maintained that the only engagement with President Ruto should be at the ballot box, rejecting any form of political handshake or cooperation ahead of the election.
