Nairobi, Kenya – October 29, 2026 – A deadly early-morning crash along Ngong Road near Talanta Stadium left two people dead and three others injured after a motorist lost control of his vehicle and struck pedestrians waiting at a stage. One of the fatalities was a teenager, while an injured Grade 9 pupil later managed to sit her examinations. In the chaotic aftermath, an angry crowd of boda boda riders set the wrecked vehicle ablaze.Citizen
The accident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. at Kenol Stage (Wahuu Road junction) along Ngong Road, opposite the Raila Odinga International Talanta Stadium. According to reports, the driver of a navy blue Toyota Mark X, travelling from the Karen/Ngong direction towards the city centre, veered sharply to the left, mounted the pavement, and struck people waiting for public transport before the vehicle crashed into a roadside embankment.The-star
Two people died at the scene: 16-year-old Hafsa Mohammed and 29-year-old Lianzika John. Their bodies were taken to City Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations. Among the injured was 16-year-old Anna Nyambura, a Grade 9 pupil at Milimani Primary School, who suffered chest and hip pain and bruises. Despite her injuries, she was later taken to school and sat her KPSEA (or related junior secondary) examinations. Other injured persons included 15-year-old Patrick Wambua (fractured leg and head injury) and Patricia Muhalia (minor injuries). Some of the injured were treated at Coptic Hospital.Citizen
Eyewitnesses and circulating images showed the severely damaged Toyota Mark X engulfed in flames after members of the public, including boda boda riders, prevented a breakdown truck from recovering it and set the wreckage on fire. The vehicle was later towed to Karen Police Station. The driver survived the crash, received treatment, and is expected to be arraigned once discharged. Preliminary accounts mentioned the recovery of alcohol bottles from the scene, raising questions about possible intoxication, though police have not confirmed this and investigations are ongoing.The-star
Police have urged the public against mob justice and called for suspects to be handed over to authorities. The incident caused temporary disruption along the busy Ngong Road corridor. It follows a separate boda boda protest that blocked the same stretch of road near Talanta Stadium earlier in the month after another fatal crash.
Vehicle inspection and further forensic work are expected to clarify the exact cause of the crash. The National Police Service continues to investigate.
