Kalonzo Delivers United Alternative Government ‘State of the Nation’ Address, Vows Pharaoh Will Drown in 2027

NAIROBI—Wiper Patriotic Front and United Alternative Government (UAG) leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday delivered what he billed as a State of the Nation Address from the SKM Command Centre, renewing his call for Kenyans to take ownership of the “Komboa Kenya” agenda and declaring that the current administration would be defeated at the ballot on August 10, 2027.X

In the address, streamed live and attended by media, Kalonzo framed the opposition’s programme as a citizen-driven liberation effort. “Komboa Kenya begins with you,” he told the gathering, echoing the language of his ongoing campaign platform that seeks to mobilise ordinary Kenyans rather than rely on traditional political financiers.X

He also weighed in on recent security and political disruptions, including events around the Raila Odinga anniversary commemorations in Bondo. Kalonzo urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to focus on the financiers behind alleged goonism rather than only targeting young people involved. “DCI should arrest the financiers, not just the young men who may just be trying to eke out a living,” he said.X

In one of the more pointed moments of the address, Kalonzo invoked the biblical story of Pharaoh and the Red Sea, a metaphor opposition leaders have previously used against President William Ruto. “I want to assure you that Pharaoh will drown on 10th August 2027 as he attempts to cross our democratic space,” he declared.X

Reports from the address also indicated that Kalonzo expressed confidence in his ability to challenge Ruto even in traditional opposition strongholds, with one circulating claim quoting him as saying he would beat the President in Luo Nyanza if given the opposition flag. The remarks come amid ongoing jostling within the broader opposition over who will emerge as the main challenger to Ruto in 2027, with Kalonzo positioning the UAG and Komboa Kenya platform as a central vehicle.X

The address follows Kalonzo’s recent tribute in Bondo marking the first anniversary of Raila Odinga’s death, in which he renewed a pledge to complete the late former Prime Minister’s “Canaan” journey through constitutionalism, relief from high taxation and the cost of living, and the restoration of democratic norms. It also comes days after his return from engagements in London, where he outlined an economic recovery agenda under the same Komboa Kenya banner.

Kalonzo’s decision to style the press conference as a State of the Nation Address has drawn mixed reactions online, with some supporters amplifying the Pharaoh and Komboa messages while critics dismissed it as another routine press briefing. The full implications for opposition strategy ahead of 2027 will likely become clearer as other coalition partners respond.
