The November 4 courtesy call highlighted cross-party respect for the veteran politician, who was discharged from Nairobi Hospital on October 19 after admission earlier that month. Wetang’ula said the visitors were encouraged by Oburu’s progress. The-star

“We were pleased and encouraged by his remarkable recovery since his discharge from hospital. We wished him continued progress and prayed for his full and speedy recovery,” Wetang’ula stated. He noted that the 83-year-old senator, true to his jovial nature, entertained the group with his usual jokes and humour while expressing confidence that he would soon return to active duty, even as he acknowledged that illness had temporarily slowed his political pace. The-star

Wetang’ula urged Oburu to prioritise his health and take sufficient time to recover fully before resuming demanding political engagements. He also clarified that the senator has not absconded his parliamentary duties and continues working from home, describing him as “a valuable pillar in Parliament and an important figure in Kenya’s political landscape.” The visit featured handshakes, conversations, and group photographs underscoring solidarity. The-star

Separately, former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio, who officially joined ODM from KANU on Tuesday at Chungwa House, paid a courtesy call on Oburu the same day. Poghisio said he was warmly received and that the two discussed shared history, including his days in Amudat and Oburu’s experiences in Uganda, as well as longstanding ties between the Odinga family, ODM, and the people of West Pokot. Poghisio is positioning himself as ODM’s candidate for the West Pokot governorship in 2027. X

The visits come as ODM navigates a leadership transition following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and amid broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. Oburu, Raila’s elder brother, has continued to play a central role in the party while recovering at his Kitisuru residence.

Well-wishers across the political spectrum have expressed hopes for his continued strength and full return to public duties.
